4 Days Akagera National park
This 4-day safari offers an exciting exploration of Akagera National Park, home to the Big Five and various other wildlife species. You'll also have the chance to experience local Rwandan culture through a community tour and optional hot air balloon safari for a unique perspective of the park.
Full itenerary
Your safari starts with a pickup from your location in Kigali, followed by a scenic drive to Akagera National Park. After arriving in the park, you will go on a late afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema. The cruise offers a chance to see hippos, crocodiles, and several bird species, including the endangered shoebill stork. Dinner and overnight will be at Akagera Game Lodge or Rusizi Tented Camp.
Start the day with an early morning game drive to spot animals like lions, elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes as they graze or hunt. After the game drive, return to your lodge for lunch and some rest. In the evening, you'll head out for another game drive, offering a chance to see nocturnal wildlife and animals returning to their dens. You will then return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, take part in a behind-the-scenes tour of Akagera National Park. This tour will give you insights into park management and conservation efforts. You'll interact with park employees and learn about the ongoing efforts to protect wildlife. After lunch, you'll visit a local community near the park. Enjoy traditional performances and purchase handmade crafts as souvenirs. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge.
On your final day, you have the option of taking a hot air balloon ride over Akagera National Park. This early morning activity offers stunning views of the park and Lake Ihema, along with a unique chance to spot wildlife from above. After the balloon ride, enjoy a celebratory drink and receive a flight certificate. Later, you’ll be driven back to Kigali, with an optional city tour if time permits. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel or the airport.
