Afterward, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in Bujumbura for check-in, dinner, and a restful overnight stay, preparing you for the adventure ahead.
After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic 200-kilometer drive from Bujumbura to the Kirundo region, renowned for its rich birdlife. This area is home to numerous lakes, including Lake Kacamirinda and Lake Kanzigiri, which are ideal birdwatching spots. One of the highlights of the day is a canoe ride on Lake Cohoha, often referred to as the "bird lake," for its status as a protected ornithological reserve teeming with various bird species. Along the way, you’ll also enjoy a stop near Bugarama to marvel at the lush, green Teza tea plantations.
Day three begins early with an exciting birdwatching and nature walk in Kibira Forest National Park, one of Burundi's prime wildlife habitats. This lush forest is home to not only numerous bird species but also black-and-white colobus monkeys, baboons, and chimpanzees. As you traverse the forest trails, take in the stunning views of the Congo-Nile Ridge and Burundi's picturesque green hills. If time allows, you’ll have the option to visit the indigenous Batwa community in Busekera, learning about their ancient traditions, or take a guided tour of the nearby Teza tea factory.
