3 Days Lake Mburo Birding Safari
Embark on a 3-day birdwatching adventure to Lake Mburo National Park, one of Uganda’s premier birding destinations. This national park, located just a few hours from Kampala, offers a unique combination of birdlife and wildlife viewing. With its diverse landscape of wetlands, acacia woodlands, rolling hills, and lakes, it is an ideal environment for a rich variety of bird species.
Full itinerary
Start your birding safari with an early morning departure from your accommodation in Kampala or Entebbe. As you journey to Lake Mburo National Park, there will be plenty of opportunities to stop along the way for birdwatching. Look out for species such as the Woolly-necked Stork, Lilac-breasted Roller, and Rufous-bellied Heron. You will also make a stop at the Equator, where you can enjoy some photography before continuing your journey.
Upon arrival at the park, your birding experience will begin immediately as you explore various areas, taking in the vibrant birdlife. In the evening, you’ll check in at your lodge for dinner and a restful overnight stay.
Your second day kicks off with an early morning birding walk through the park’s trails, accompanied by an armed ranger. This offers an up-close look at the birds that thrive in the park's acacia and savannah habitats. After breakfast, you’ll embark on a combined birding and game drive, where you can spot both birds and mammals. Focus will be on finding special bird species such as the Red-faced Barbet, Coqui Francolin, Tabora Cisticola, Black-shouldered Cuckoo Shrike, and many acacia-associated birds.
In the afternoon, enjoy a boat ride on Lake Mburo, where you can observe water birds such as the African Finfoot, Giant Kingfisher, and White-backed Night Heron. The boat ride offers a serene way to take in the park's rich birdlife and scenery.
On the final day of your safari, there will be a morning birding session, with a focus on species that may have been missed on previous days, including the Papyrus Gonolek, which inhabits the park’s swampy areas. Depending on your flight schedule, you will either continue birding en route or head directly to Entebbe/Kampala. This marks the end of your exciting 3 Days Lake Mburo Birding Safari.
